Our firm represented a defendant, who was working in an internet café and had been arrested by the police in the act. The defendant had been charged before Single Member Criminal Court of Appeals of Athens, for organizing illegal gambling.
The penalty for organizing illegal gambling is minimum 10-year and up to 20-year imprisonment in addition to a criminal fine of 700.000 euros according to L. 4002/2011 and is considered a felony.
The Court accepted the defensive allegations which were presented by our firm and commuted the felony to misdemeanor and recognized mitigating circumstances to the defendant.
The Court imposed a 30-month imprisonment without criminal fine to the defendant and decided the non-enforcement of the sentence, until the hearing of the case before the Three Member Criminal Court of Appeals of Athens, which is going to hear the appeal of the defendant.
